Reelection to be in line with Constitution, says Musharraf
ISLAMABAD: President General Pervez Musharraf has said that his re-election procedure will be in line with constitutional norms.
Talking to Minister for Narcotics Control Ghous Baksh Meher and Parliamentary Secretary for the Interior Sanaullah Mastikhel, who called on him at the President’s House on Wednesday, the president also vowed to hold general elections in which all political parties would be allowed to participate.
One of the visitors told Online that the overall situation of the country, general and presidential elections, the judicial crisis, PML’s performance, development projects and issues pertaining to their electoral constituencies were discussed.
He said President Musharraf strongly discounted the notion of there being any judicial crisis in the country and informed the visitors that the election commission had taken foolproof measures in compiling voters’ lists, which anyone could verify.
Briefing his guests on development projects, the president outlined the Rs 520 billion development budget for the next fiscal year, saying it was a people-friendly budget ushering in an era of prosperity and progress.
President Musharraf said he was committed to socio-economic development of the less developed areas of the country. He said a network of roads was being constructed in Sindh to open up far flung areas of the province.
The brick-lining of water courses project, costing Rs 66 billion, would provide sufficient water for agriculture and benefit tail-end farmers, the president said. Educated youth and especially women should benefit from the Rozgaar Pakistan Scheme, he added.
Meher and Mastikhel assured the president of their undying support for his vision, and also shared their recommendations and suggestions. agencies
